A large manufacturing firm in the Middle East wanted to exit their ULA as they felt the cost did not justify the return on their IT investment. By working with Nafkha Consulting, the client realized that it was beneficial for them to renew the ULA one more time rather than exit.
While the customer made their intentions clear to Oracle, they were first asked to manually report all servers on which Oracle software was installed and running. Not satisfied with the report, Oracle then requested the customer to run their LMS scripts. This is when the customer contacted us.
We then explained the ULA renewal and certification process and shared Nafkha Consulting’s scripts to get a detailed deployment report. We then found that the client had deployed non-ULA software and the exit would be very painful as the client would be asked to purchase additional licenses which would be more expensive than renewing their ULA.
We then came up with a detailed step-by-step negotiation strategy where we requested to add additional products to the ULA and then re-negotiate the renewal fees. The entire process lasted 3 months.
Outcome:
✔ Additional software licenses added to ULA renewal.
✔ Flatlined support renewal for 3 years at 0%, 2%, and 4% increase instead of 7-8% increase in annual support fees.
✔ Reduced ULA renewal fees by 42% while adding more products.
✔ Successfully avoided license audit.
✔ Devised a 2-year plan to maximize ULA usage and then certify/exit the ULA during the next renewal.
